We loved this place! Antipasto, main, dish, and dessert for $35. The antipasto was outstanding -- don't skip that course. We also had the branzino, duck, and beef main dishes and they were all excellent. For dessert both the panna cotta and chocolate cake were great. We also had the True Myth cab for wine and liked it enough to get a second bottle.

Before they become an OpenTable 3-week advance reservations required restaurant, N&J reigns supreme as the only Corsican restaurant in LA (in SoCalif, in all of California, pretty much the entire West Coast.) A French province whose proximity to Italy heavily influences its naturally fusion cuisine. You'll experience something like an Italian classic prepared with French technique (or perhaps French cuisine using Italian ingredients?) Anyway, it's an outstanding pairing of flavors, techniques and preparation that definitely hits the "you can't stop once you start" sort of emotional draw to the cuisine. The antipasti course (which is ultra-Corsican selections) grows with the number of people sharing the Prix Fixe style ordering (you can still order ala carte if you really wish to, but the value alone of the assembled meal gives you plenty of choice of entrees and desserts and avails you of the bounty of completely unique Corsican delights (think of it like European banchan). 1-person gets you a mixed charcuterie platter; 2 the addition of various spreads and tapenades, 3 adds the salad creations, and 4 includes the really great cheese selections. (bring 4 at least if at all possible, and everything is family style shared.) Your entrees are individual, but you can always go Basque and share everything to really gain the greatest variety and sense of balance to all the entrees. We shared a medium rare duck breast with roasted peaches, a veal stew with tagliatelle that you just never want to end, and a veal moussaka that reminds you of a top-shelf shepards pie. The entire wine list is filled with unique regional Italian and French small producer bottles, all available by the glass or bottle, all at really affordable prices. The dessert selections sound perfectly normal (tiramisu, panna cotta, flan, and even a chocolate cake) but none of them are anywhere close to middle-road at all. Each one has really unique home prepared qualities, and unique tweaks to let you know these are really special finishing treats to a sumptuous meal. The decor and atmosphere is quite romantically inspired and reminds you of being in the parlour of a family home. It's cozy and a respite from the boisterous wildly populated establishments lining the Melrose neighborhood. Valet parking in front (it's Melrose...so have at it and make your offerings to the parking gods before arriving). Brunch - excellent, Lunch - excellent, Dinner - excellent. A few more months from now and you'll be waiting weeks for the chance to discover this one.

Lovely little family owned restaurant, went there with the family for brunch on Sunday, took the brunches "Imperial" and "small". It all came in little plates, presentation was great, all the products are fresh and excellent. The decoration of the restaurant is very nice, quiet, and service is excellent. Highly recommend for food lovers and those in search of some french/corsica ambiance.

Excellent! Great food and service. Only complaint is that Jimmy Kimmel was here tonight, and he's one of those people who talks too loud in a restaurant. Apparently he finds himself fascinating. I don't. But the excellent food more than made up for it. Fennel tea at the end was out of this world. Service could be on their toes a bit more.

After two completely different and wonderful dinners at Napoleon and Josephine, I can say for sure this is one of my new favorite restaurants in the city. It's totally a hidden gem and unlike a lot of new and trendy restaurants in the area; quite the opposite, actually! It's quaint, cozy, romantic, and very French yet unpretentious. It's changed a bit since we went first went a few months ago. They've dropped the traditional menu in favor of a cute chalkboard menu with a $28 and $35 option. You choose whether you want the antipasti (you most certainly do), and then you select an entree and later, a dessert. Check in on Yelp for a free glass of wine, too! Seriously, this is such a great deal - you get much more than what you pay for! Between the three of us, we tried the smoked salmon tagliatelle, veal stew over polenta, and the steak and frites. For dessert we had lemon panna cotta, cheesecake, and lemon mousse. Seriously, from the impressive antipasti spread to the dessert, everything was so lovely and tasty. It's obvious how much care goes into the preparation of each dish - it's almost like you're eating at someone's home in Corsica. It's a definite bonus that the service is gracious and attentive but very intentionally slow paced in a refreshing way.

I absolutely fell in love with the place by the time my 1st course of spectacular 2-person antipasti was over... the charm of the restaurant, the deliberate pacing of enjoying the meal, and the kind, yet still French touch to everything! I would definitely go back for antipasti for 3 or more people--- wanted more and more! The grilled tomato and almond dip, tapenade, beet salad, and eggplant were outstanding, as was the phyllo filled with fig and goat cheese. I like my branzino, but it was a tad dry. My buttery veggies were divine... and the desserts pictured with my review... were wonderful. By this point, I was glad the portions were French :) This is a wonderful get-away in LA for a super romantic vibe over a fine meal :)

Went in for a friend's birthday brunch at 11am on a Saturday. The best part? No waiting. The next best part? It was one of the most tasty and beautiful brunch presentation. People expect breakfast to be stacks of pancakes and eggs Benedict galore on the menu, but today I learned that you can get a little bit of everything and it provides a very satisfying meal. We all ordered to share the brunch spread which included various types of cheese, meats, bacon, sausage, egg, baguette, jam, figs and other fruits, and yogurt with granola and honey. Everything tasted absolutely amazing. I felt like this is how eating should be. What a great sample tasting of French life! We had brought in cake from another store and they brought it out for us with candles after our meal. They also cut it and served on our plates for us. I know a lot of restaurants who just give you a knife and expect you to serve yourself when you bring dessert from elsewhere. Not here though; we appreciated it greatly. The atmosphere here is also so charming. Love the homey, artsy mismatched decor and furnishing that somehow works together. Blu Jam Cafe, which is LA's brunch hot spot is right down the street but people don't know that this place is the real gem. I felt bad for those waiting up to an hour over there!

Actually 4.5 stars. Why? Having done Mother's Day brunch ranging from the Ritz to national restaurant chains, this place beat them all. Made reservations through Opentable at 2pm on Mother's Day. Was looking for something central, since we were a party of 8 and spread throughout LA and something unique, since I am sick of major boring chains. The only Corsican restaurant in Los Angeles seemed the perfect fit. Parking: located on busy Melrose, so there's metered street parking (one member of our party got a spot right in front), but there's plenty of free neighborhood parking on side streets. The first 4 of us arrived about 5-10 minutes late. Restaurant offered to seat us (YAY!!!!!) even though the rest of our party was not there. Ambiance: So cute & intimate; fantastic date spot! What could be better than pics on the wall of the love story of Napoleon & Josephine. We were brought water very quickly and ordered a round of drinks. I ordered a Mimosa & my husband a Peroni beer (No hard liquor here). Started to receive text messages about how late the rest of our party was going to be, so we decided to go ahead and place our order. Food: Plate #3: Michel Cordon Bleu's Smoked Salmon, Chive Cream, Avocado, Poached Egg, Home fries & Fresh fruits. VERY GOOD! Loved it. Croque Monsieur: My husband & daughter ordered this and I didn't even get to try a bite because they both cleaned their plate. Italian Salad: Very Good & Fresh As the rest of my party straggled in with the last 2 arriving an hour late (seriously), I was impressed with how the servers were relaxed and welcoming despite my party's lateness. Everyone saw me finishing up my plate and pretty much ordered the same thing. Their reaction? They loved it & finished. After all was said & done, they brought out dessert menus, even though we were the only people in the restaurant and we had long overstayed. I ordered the Fiadone & a Cappuccino. Fiadone: Excellent! Its Corsican traditional cheesecake, made with Ricotta so it was lighter. YUM! Cappuccino: Pass, however, served in cute china. Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream & Salted Caramel Topping: Tried a bite, good but my husband loved this. From beginning to end, service was friendly and accommodating. Final Note: Prices were very reasonable.

I honestly wish I could give this place more stars, but I can't. I decided to come here after I walked past and thought "damn this looks like a good date night spot". Now, looks can only get you so far. The place is beautiful. Very homey, very comfortable, almost like you're at somebody's grandmas house. The service though....The servers are very nice, yes, but the time it took them to bring us anything was insane. Sure the spot was packed, but it's really not that big of a place to take so long. It took about 25 minutes for our wine, 35 minutes to get us our appetizer and then another 30 for the entrees. I'm not expecting McDonald's speed but this was a bit much. Also, we were told 40 minutes after ordering that they were out of lamb. We started with the charcuterie board, I got the Veal Filet Milanesa and my girlfriend got the lamb, but they were out so she got veal stew. The board was pretty good. Olive and the eggplant purée helped a lot. The filet though, was bland, nothing special. The pasta that came with it had a really cool texture, but no flavor at all. I expected much more. The veal stew was actually good. A lot of flavor in it. I really hoped this place would've blown me out the water, but sadly, I was wrong.

Such an adorable little cafe! I already love French cuisine, but to get introduced to Corsican specialties... ooh la la!!!! The manager probably owner was an attentive and very likable! I feel lucky that we were one of the few firsts to experience brunch being served. The restaurant opened few months ago it looks like serving dinner. And it's only very recently a week or so they opened Sundays for brunch. Mimosas are delicious, cappuccinos scream seconds! (I had an issue with the coffee though, it was rather cold, and not tasty at all, so yes I did switch to cappuccino.) Food presentation is adorable, and little dishes and containers make the experience fully French! The walls are adorned with Napoleonistic artifacts. The walk to the bathrooms is almost like a time travel back to French quaint luxuries of intimate rooms, cute sofas, and tables etc. Quality of food is exquisite, mouth watering french mayonnaise accompanied brunch options... my breakfast (option #2) had a toasted brie-filled bread/brioche of some sort that was absolutely out of this world! I can't wait to go back and try dinner! Loved it!

Came here with my cousin to grab a bite. Upon encountering the ambiance, trying the wine, & tasting the Antipasti (a melange of bites & flavors I can't recommend enough), our spirits were lifted. As a Francophile & avid fan of regional French cuisine, I was curious to try this place. In my fair assessment, this is one of the most authentic, true-to-form experiences you can find in LA (up there with Café Stella, La Poubelle, & Café Midi). Even the wine list is authentic (they had bottles from Corsica as well as other well known regions). I'd recommend doing the 3 course prix-fixe if it's your first time, as that option seems to be the "edible highlight reel" of what this place is all about. I will definitely be coming back, most likely with close friends & family in tow. Perhaps that was their intent.

The host & server, Sedrick, was so nice and welcoming. We both got the 3 course meal for $35. There was like 13 things to taste in the antipasti mix, the beef Tagliata was cooked to perfection (med rare) and it was so tender and flavorful, my sister got the Canneloni au Brocciu and it was cheesy and warm. The dessert was amazing we got the cheese cake which was so light and sweet, and the best of the best was the mascarpone with honey. It was like ice cream but there's no cream in it! Afterwards, we didn't feel so over stuffed or bloated even though we ate a lot, but that's how we felt in France as well.

A very charming restaurant with lots of nuances and old-world flare, Napoleon & Josephine, tries to transport you into someone's Corsican home for an honest meal. The little chachkies on tables and lining the walls comprised of old coffee cans and figurines, make it seem like you are at your grandma's house - homey and warm. As you start to drift away to this far away place, you are quickly snapped back to reality by the glow of the bright yellow Sprint store sign across the street. The menu is simple, yet has something to delight everyone. Starting with the wines, the choices are limited, but pair very well with the meal. For our visit, we opted for several appetizers; Beef Carpaccio, Zucchini Beignets, and a Goat Cheese Tart. Our server was very quick to deliver our wine order and a complimentary Crudités platter. The Comte Abbatucci, Faustine, Sartene we ordered was perfect for our choices of food and came complete with an ice bucket. The crudites platter, although a nice idea, was a little awkward. Complete with crisps and what seem to be Mr. Peanut roasted nuts, it had a few heirloom carrots in three different dips, neither of which stood out. The first of the appetizers to arrive were the Zucchini Beignets. Light on texture, but sadly, very oily and just a tad bland. Perhaps the oil just did not get up to temp enough before frying? Hitting them with a little salt right after cooking would have gone a long way, but the overall flavor was nice and sweet with all the prominent Zucchini flavors front and center. Next on the pass was the Beef Carpaccio, which unfortunately, was also the worst dish of the night. Simply no flare or seasoning. A very mineral tasting cut of beef with no salt whatsoever. A bit of arugula and few shavings of Parmesan dressed with lemon juice did not help. Luckily there was some salt (and pepper) already on the table which did save the dish if only by a hair. The best and the most beautiful dish of the night was the tart. Artistically plated and masterfully prepared, it redeemed the overall ability of the kitchen to produce a great dish and ultimately led to a decision to return to NJ; hopefully soon. The tart ended up sitting on the plate for quite a long time as we almost could not bare to cut into it, but when the initial slice was delivered, it was clear that this creation was meant to be enjoyed not only with one's eyes, but pallet as well. The light flavor of goat cheese danced on our taste buds and married beautifully with an array of well prepared and seasoned vegetables. From artichokes and tomatoes, to asparagus and mushrooms, everything worked together wonderfully well. Our time at Napoleon and Josephine's went by quick and we ended up closing down the restaurant. So for this and everything else, I am grateful to the staff and recommend you give them a try as well.

This place is cozy and warm, and the food is delicious. It's one of those places that just gets it - cute but unpretentious, charming but not overwhelming, friendly but not pandering. This is the kind of restaurant that you bookmark in your mind, and come back often - with a date, a spouse, your family. The kind of place that impresses the locals as much as it impresses the out-of-towners. I recommend trying both the brunch and the dinner - both great experiences, in their own way. The Corsican cooking is full of flavor, and each dish is fun, tasty, and yummy. Most restaurant food tastes the same to me, but here I finally understood what it's like to eat food prepared by the chef, not by someone trained by the chef, while the chef is out promoting himself. Oh, and the service is so friendly and nice!

this place is so fucking cute. Every, single detail: the decoration on the walls, the small gold teaspoon, the pepper mill dice cube, the top hat lamp shade. Ahhhhhhh! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Their som suggested a great corsican wine to pair along with our meals. We ordered the beignets, charcuterie, beef stew, lamb, and the osso bucco. Everything on point. Tender, flavorful, well seasoned. Portions weren't portentous. The staff even came to the table to sing happy birthday to bran. For dessert, we got the melba, tiramisu, and their corsican cheesecake. I suggest their melba. Everything is made in house so get that strawberry ice cream. Their to-go containers are actual plastic containers! Tip: if you don't want to valet, you gotta do a ballet around the residential neighborhood to find parking. Not difficult. What to expect: great service and a blend between Italian and French food with Mediterranean influences. I will be returning on another occasion.

I love this place! It's so quaint and cozy, right when you walk in you feel like you're transported to Europe. The bread and dips they bring out at first are delicious. My friend and I started with the charcuterie platter, and although it looked small--there was a lot of great stuff on it. We were actually full by the time we finished it. And then came out entrees, black cod & osso bucco. Both so delicious we had to eat them even though we were full! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, I can't wait to come back!

Napoleon and Josephine is a charming new spot on the strip of Melrose between La Brea and Fairfax that seems to be poppin' off as of late. My date and i actually found the spot because we tried to walk-in to Smoke.Oil.Salt but there was a wait. To kill time we wandered down Melrose and happened on this place. Lucky us! The decor was cute and homey. Tufted red leather booths and cute shabby-chic 2-tops make up most of the small dining floor. It's a very intimate yet relaxed setting, like you're having a fancy dinner party at a friend's place, using their kitschy mis-matched plates and what not. To start off, the service was great. Our waitress was French, which makes a French restaurant seem much more authentic. She recommended wines to us (all we saw was a wine list -- not sure if they sell beer or hard liquor). We went with a $12/glass red that was delicious and a healthy pour. After ordering, a plate of crostini and creamy-type dips were delivered. Not sure if this was supposed to show up... or if we were accidentally given somebody else's appetizer. I'm fairly convinced it's complimentary, but I don't want to make any promises since we were also given a basket of bread! That's a lot of free food! The crostini plate was delicious and the anchovy cream dip was really tasty (very fishy though if that freaks you out). For our appetizer we split the zucchini beignets. Get these please. They were perfectly fried and melted in your mouth. We couldn't get enough. That plate was gone in about 5 minutes. (We were also ravenous, but still. Hit the spot.) For my entree I ordered the cod. It was presented beautifully and cooked perfectly. It melted like butter on my fork, and was complimented by booked vegetables and beautiful red sauce. Highly recommended. My date got the lamb, which was also delicious, very rich and hearty. We skipped out on dessert because we were stuffed and wanted to continue our evening, but i'm sure that would have been delicious too. 4 stars because the prices seemed just a tad high. It didn't seem like a fancy enough place atmosphere-wise to be charging $26 for cod.

I'm in between 3 and 4 stars. First the place was half full. I'm not sure why but they won't last if this is the case on Thursday night. The food was pretty good. The appetizers were a bunch of meats and dipping sauces. Quite tasty and I ordered the fish for the main course which was good too. The meal though took much too long. We were there for nearly two hours and had to ask the server to speed things up. I may go back and try the brunch which looked good.

One of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in my 40 years. My wife and I took my mother to N + J for her birthday. We all ordered the full Monty (ie main courses with the antipasti starters). Wow, what an amazing array of wonderful antipasti. You have to see it (and taste it) to believe it. Gracious, attentive service, wonderful value for what you get ($35 pp for all that wonderful food?!? Amazing!) Very unique Corsican French cuisine was eye opening (and palate pleasing). I can't recommend Napoleon and Josephine enough.

Initially when I entered Napoleon and Josephine, I was in awe about their intricate and detailed table setting and honestly, I was kind of annoyed that the service was slow - us Americans like things quick and easy. But once our lovely server came over greeting us in her adorably thick accent, I knew I was about to have a love affair with Corsican food for the very first time. Naturally, as the French do, we started with a bottle of red wine. Our server warned us that it needed to breathe, so we waited for it to do so while enjoying our impressively plated crudité. We agreed that she was right as we sipped our delightful wine 10 minutes later and asked what she recommended for our pescatarian paletes. We went with her suggested zucchini beignet and the eggplant topped with honey-garlic aïoli as our appetizers, shared a broccoli cannelloni as an entrée and finished with a homemade strawberry ice cream dessert. And they were all to die for! The beignet was served with a fresh dill-goat cheese, the eggplant had the perfect flavors and textures and the cannelloni was so delicious there was no doubt it was made from scratch. As was the dessert, but I won't even try to begin to describe that. It can be summed up with: sacré dieu! I've never been to France and to be honest, I never knew Corsica existed, but I sure as hell didn't eat like a dainty French person here: everything was WAY too delicious. Come here for what I would assume is a true, French experience. You'll scarf everything down and devour every last bit of it like a true American. (If you feel kind of embarrassed about it, don't worry... so did I.)

Very authentic! The Owners did a fantastic job with the decor. The little vignettes are adorable and make the vibe extremely cozy and inviting . You could spend hours in here and not even know it. I stopped in late night for a little Corsican wine which was divine and some charcuterie that hit the spot and can't wait to come back for more. Definitely the best restaurant on Melrose. I REALLY REALLY was excited to try out this restaurant. When I made the reservations, the reviews on yelp looked great. As the date was approaching, the there were some bad reviews. Not terrible, just mad. I just thought there were possible haters. mehhhhhhhh. the zucchini beignets just tasted like dough in oil. The charcuterie board was so plain. It was something I could have put together at home. For the main dishes, I tried the 7 hour lamb-flavorless. And the veal stew-good. not great). For dessert, I tried some strawberry jam yogurt parfait-ish thing. Also nothing special. I think there are better rustic French restaurants in the area. I would say for the price A Food Affair is much better

What a fantastic Corsican/French restaurant. I wandered in with a friend and was lucky enough to enjoy 90 minutes of culinary heaven. EVERYTHING is made in-house, the restaurant is very intimate and the service is mostly good. The food is absolutely incredible. I just can't recommend this place enough especially for a date. 5 stars!

Seriously one of the best spreads in Los Angeles. The staff was very attentive, helpful, and overall fantastic. The food was even better. The beef was cooked to perfection! I find that most restaurants in LA overcook their beef. Asking for a medium usually means overcooked to medium well. The difference really does matter. The goat cheese cheesecake was another plus. Will definitely come back.

The five star reviews left here seem staged. Most of the reviewers have 0-3 reviews max. I originally gave this place 3 stars but dropped it after I read how fake the other reviews are. This place is absolutely tiny. Like eency weency. It honestly seems more of a lunch location. The food is good but the service needs work. Also the menu isn't in English and when you order you have to ask the waiter what each item is. I'm sure if they added translations on the menu the servers would have more time to provide customer service since they won't have to waste time translating the entire menu. We sat down. Took 10 minutes for bread. We ordered appetizers. Never got them. When we received the entree after sitting for 45 minutes we were shocked to find out the server had simply forgotten to put in our appetizer order. Unacceptable... Especially for a brand new restaurant trying to make a statement. Veal Stew- It was actually really really good. I didn't taste the fish of the day my friends ordered. I wish I could review on the appetizers. We ordered a bunch of them. The manager then sent out a burrata after he found out our appetizer order was never put int. It was pretty good but I was excited to try the other appetizers. Won't return.

I have yet to write a positive review on yelp, because the alpha bitch in me is critical of everything. So... here's my first. My husband and I went tonight to celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary. First, they brought out some crudités - you've seen the zillion photos already. But let me tell you - I detest goat cheese. Just the whiff of goat cheese and I think of homeless people doing the nasty. The smell and taste of it is just vile. But in one miniature ramekin was the goat cheese and yogurt dip and the other smaller bowl (made for American Gir dolls, I tell ya) was the feta and yellow beet dip. The Man hates feta and goat cheese is like the 10th level of hell for me. Uh... we devoured that. That goat cheese yogurt dip was perfection in white. Yes, you can still taste the goat cheese, but it was more like a lilting melody, rather than an obnoxious fog horn, which is how it normally comes across to me. Then the feta... Bit more texture, pretty yellow and slightly nutty... Can I buy this by the boat load!? The Man ordered the lamb and I ordered the cod. He said it was the best lamb he's had since leaving New Zealand - and he even told our server that. He NEVER tells the servers ANYTHING. This man usually grunts or mumbles... but he was rhapsodising eloquent prose at the marvel that was his dinner. To the server. Repeatedly. He couldn't get all the adjectives and adverbs out of his mouth fast enough, so he started to repeat his praise, quite effusively. Can't say I blame him - I was seeing angels and hearing heavenly music with my cod. That honey aioli over the cod and baked in the salamander... *whimper*... Who would've ever thought MAYONNAISE would bring a foodie to her knees??? Then the poached pears... Sweet baby Jesus. Just *thinking* about them brings tears to my eyes. The spiced wine was a symphony of gastronomic perfection. (I normally am not a huge red wine drinker and not too hot about spices in alcohol either...) the pears were surrounded by blueberries, grapes, and raspberries, and it was accompanied by a scoop of Madagascar vanilla ice cream with roasted crushed pistachios sprinkled on top. Holy mother of God. I took a little of the ice cream (which was fabulous alone to begin with) and dipped a bit of the wine and I DIED. The pears were just... Heavenly. Perfectly soaked with all the goodness from the holy saints of yum... Each bite was better than the last. What sorcery is this!? The service was lovely, decor was unique yet inviting, meal was superb. Whoever the chef is, he or she and their entire team deserves a raise. I can't wait to go back there and try their other selections! Btw, I'm currently on a low-carb diet and the cod was perfect. (I did push the potatoes to The Man.) As for the desert, I asked our waitress if it's sugary and she said they use very little sugar. She's right - it wasn't about the American sweetness but about enhancing the natural flavours of these ingredients. How tres French of them. Merci!

What an amazing place! Everything was absolutely splendid - from the Corsican atmosphere and international music to the impeccably friendly service to the wonderful food. The appetizer spread was generous and delicious, especially the homemade olive tapenade and beet salad. The ricotta filled cannelloni was terrific, as was the cod and fresh mash potato dish. Desserts were fabulous. This is a great new addition to the neighborhood and we plan on returning often.

TLDR: This place wonderful for a date or romantic evening. Food is wonderful, service is great. If you are picking out a place for an anniversary, birthday, or impressive 3rd-5th date where you want to chat for a while and get that elegant but casual euro feeling, you should go here. Cost for 3 glasses of wine, shared appetizer, two entrees and shared desert, plus tip around $120. Reservation: I would recommend making one because it's a small place (~12 tables for groups up to 6) and they are easy to make through open table. Also, they read what you write if it's a special occasion. Parking: It's in an impacted parking area (it's on melrose, do you really expect parking?), they have Curbstand valet (pay through your phone app, it's amazing) which is nice if you need it, I personally took an uber because we were planning on drinking more later. Inside: Can this place be any cuter? No. It's fucking adorable. Noise level: You can have a nice quiet evening cooing to each other or a moderately boisterous meal with friends. More than that, and you will be "those people." Staff and service: I'm a stickler when it comes to good service and these guys nail it. Water when you want it, no overcrowding with the check, refill on wine is well timed, food comes out at a great pace, fresh plates/cutlery when needed per course, all done with a smile because they like what they do here. They enjoy making your dining experience wonderful. Example, the owner and his wife (I think) make the rounds as your servers and take great care of you, with wonderful wine suggestions. Wine: By the glass or the bottle. Run from 11-15 per glass, yes it's worth it. Try the corsican wine suggestion. Bottles are a bit more (around 40), we didn't try BYOB. ***NOTE: They do not have a liquor license. Beer and wine only and they stick to wine.*** General food presentation: Every time a dish came out, I was salivating, maybe it was because I was hungry, but more so because it looked so damn good. Simple yet elegant presentation on all of their dishes. Appetizer: We had the Eggplant dish. It's BTS. Seriously. Have this and a glass of wine, and you will happy. Eat more and you may reach some level of bliss. Entree: The lamb was good and it's hard to do lamb well. So yes, you should try it as it was one of the more reasonably priced entrees and very well flavored, paired wonderfully with the wine. The canneloni for you vegetarians was also good. Would I recommend it to a non-vegetarian...maybe. It could have been the lamb that was so flavorful, that this was good, but not the same level for me personally. Don't get me wrong, it's still very tasty, you won't be sad that you had to eat some good food. Desert: If you can even make it this far. They brought us two small complimentary pieces of cheesecake for the birthday girl. It was wonderful. I did the heavy lifting, and it was worth it. Fresh, light (not too dense), nice flavor balance, fresh fruit and beautiful presentation. Overall, this place was perfect for what we wanted. Their service and decor really pull this place up. The food is good, the eggplant is divine.

I LOVED it and have been telling everyone to go all week. This place is so cute and not what I was expecting from the location. I loved the details. We met the owner and she said she picked up the knick nacks and stuff on the walls from flea markets in France and Corsica. (I'm a flea market junkie, so I loved this!) We got the beignets and the charcuterie to start. Both were awesome. Charcuterie great for the money... good variety. The beignets were light and fluffy and came with the best sauce. Loved the free veggie appetizer with dipping sauces. My boyfriend got a white fish (I can't remember) with an amazing sauce baked on top. It was too good. I got the osso bucco with homemade pasta. It had a bit of orange peel in it, and it was amazing. To die for. The wine is great.

Came here with my fiance and future in-laws the other day. What a pleasant surprise. The decor was homey but elegant and Charlotte, our server, was attentive and clearly took pride in the work they do here. She seemed to be doing everything! Her food and wine recommendations were honest and passionate. All of our food was delicious. It doesn't look like that large of a portion, but believe me, it's more than enough. The lasagna was incredible and the homemade noodles really made the dish. We will definitely be back here when we feel like having a nice dinner with a warm atmosphere.

What the.....? This place is the biggest joke on the planet. If you just do a little bit of research you'll realize the 5 star reviews must be fake. Service? I'm pretty sure they have no idea what that term means. I mean yes our waitress was extremely nice but c'mon, 45 minutes after we placed our order, she decides to tell us that one of the items ordered on our table was no longer available (the lamb). Ok so why would it take almost an hour to realize that?!? Ok so the food that FINALLY came out a century later: We had the veal milanesa, veal stew, and the tagliatelle in mushroom sauce. For the appetizer, our party shared the charcuterie plate. To sum it up everything was bland, at best. The veal was seasoned horribly and fried to a point where it lacked any flavor. The pasta served with it looked delicious, but I took a bite and it tasted like paper. Ok so I was seriously disappointed, and moved on to the mushroom pasta. This tasted like my former mentioned paper-tasting pasta except with some bacon and mushrooms. No thanks. The only thing that was slightly mediocre was the veal stew, but this is only because it was being compared to the other dishes on our table. The charcuterie plate....never mind I won't even get into it...just skip this one, actually just avoid this place at all costs. There's plenty of amazing restaurants right around this restaurant. I can't imagine this place lasting too long unless their service and menu are revamped. Our bill came out to be around $200 (incl. a bottle of vino) which is plain ridiculous considering the service and food. I love splurging on meals but this felt more like throwing Franklins down a well, which would have most likely been more satisfying. The only reason they even deserve one star is for the ambiance and decor, it's kinda weird and creepy but for some reason it made sense.

Went into the restaurant which has a lovely French décor. There is a welcome as soon as you arrive. You feel you are in someone's home. The food was a wonderful experience. They have 3 course choice that give you a starter, main course and dessert. My husband and I chose a beef dish and my son close a veal pasta. The first course was multiple tastes including meats, mushrooms, onion, tapenade, breads, terrine and multiple other items to taste. Delicious and fun to eat. Out main courses were excellent. The beef was perfect with delicious potatoes. The veal with noodles was good. A little fatty, but all was finished. Dessert had mixed desserts. This was a special experience. We will be back. Only comment from my companions was they could had more. You need to come and enjoy!!!

It's difficult to find anything mediocre at Napoleon and Josephine. The moment you walk in you know you're in for a treat. The ambiance puts you right in Corsica immediately - it's quaint and delicate with its mis-matched table-ware, quiet booths, a bar-for-two, and a staff of two. The menu can't be reviewed. It changes weekly and it's wonderful. Get lucky and you may find yourself tempting bone marrow; an unexpected and delicious treat nowhere to be found in the surrounding Melrose scene. The wine (all French of course) should be taken on recommendation. You can't go wrong. All-in-all this is the most personal and savory dining experience in the Fairfax/Melrose area when it comes to European cuisine. This is a restaurant locals want to keep alive and see flourish. The staff, the food, the setting will bring you back to that nostalgic trip you took to France, so many years ago.

I don't usually post reviews, but I had to make an exception for Napoleon and Josephine. First of all, the ambiance is incredible -- cozy and friendly but upscale. So often the staff at trendy or upscale restaurants seem distant or insincere but everyone at Napoleon and Josephine was animated and welcoming. The atmosphere (and food) is perfect for charming your date. We started with the foie gras. I had never had it before and the amount was quite generous. It also came with a balsamic sort of sauce that was an excellent pairing. It was a little too rich for me, but my date loved it. We were also given a complementary starter with an amazing hummus and garlic sauce. For our entrees, I ordered the tagliatelle with smoked salmon and my date ordered the stew with polenta. Both were really good and the portions were definitely larger than expected. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked and the noodles were deliciously chewy. We also got a glass of wine each from our servers recommendation. In conclusion, Napoleon and Josephine has amazing romantic ambiance and delicious food. 12/10 would recommend.

This is hands down my new favorite place! I live off of Melrose and am always excited to try out the new, walkable restaurants on the strip (between La Brea and Fairfax.) When I first walked in, I was reminded of the time I spent in Europe. It really feels authentic down to every detail of this restaurant, from the artwork, to chairs and booths, to the place settings... it took me to another place! For our appetizers we had the beignet with fresh goat cheese mixed with dill and an eggplant dish with honey-crusted deliciousness on top -- I don't really know how to describe it, but it was simply amazing! We had a cannelloni pasta as our main dish, which made me question why on earth I've been eating pre-made Trader Joe's pasta for so long. I'm usually not a big dessert girl (or should I say usually too full for dessert), but was blown away by the homemade strawberry ice cream. It had fresh strawberries, fresh cream, a candied orange and meringue... frickin' awesome! This place felt super authentic and I highly recommend it. It was definitely one of the most unique dining experiences I've had in LA.

The appetizers were splendid. I took the meat which was delicious and the homemade desert were superb. It is rare to be satisfy from start to finish, but this place delivers it. You feel almost like you're in someone's home. The plates and other decor items are from another era, old-fashioned and lovely.Our server was a delightful young woman from Toulouse. The food is delicious, not trendy or experimental, but from someone's grandmother's recipe. We had zucchini beignets, veal stew and 7 hour lamb, delicious Corsican wine, and a home-made flan. The owner/chef is from Corsica and talks to everyone with enthusiasm and interest. If you want to be transported to Corsica, this is the place. What can I say about this establishment that would do it justice? Not much, this is a true gem. So unique in this city. The food was amazing, the wait staff super attentive and friendly. A wonderful place for a romantic night out or just looking for a unique place to enjoy an amazing meal that truly reminds me of being back in France. The decor is fun and really gives a cozy feeling while dining and with the staff and their attentiveness, you truly feel like you've stumbled upon that traditional, local cafe off a side street in Europe. Absolutely fantastic.

We've been twice and the food is delicious and beautifully presented. One of our group had gluten allergy and the staff was very helpful, with the chef coming out to consult with us, revealing many gluten free choices The service overall is quite special, offering little extras and the atmosphere is utterly charming. Most important for us is that you can have a conversation! The background music is delightfully eclectic with a french flavor but not so loud that conversation is difficult. So many restaurants (Alimento in Silver Lake) are exhausting due to the noise level. Not this one!

There are many French restaurants in Los Angeles but a few welcome you and inspire you the way Cedric and Olympe do. From the minute you walk in, you feel at home. Their menu is exquisite and tasteful. The decor brings you back to another time and another country; Corsica. Napoleon's medallions infuse greatness and authenticity all around you. An inspiring place you want to share with all your most well traveled friends!
